Smartarose: Smartarose is one kind of gel filtration medium based on agarose beads. It consists of a porous matrix of spherical particles with chemical and physical stability and inertness. Smartarose Beads with different pore sizes prepared by controlling the concentration and cross-linking degree of agarose. They can be used to separate proteins with different molecular weights.
Smartdex: Smartdex is one kind of size exclusion chromatography based on Dextran. Smartdex beads have a three-dimensional network structure which is formed by cross-linked dextran and cross-linked agent through an ether bond. When the beads have the greater degree of cross-linking, the smaller pores be formed. The smaller molecules can pass through the inner of Beads.
Size exclusion chromatography (SEC) is also known as gel filtration or molecular sieve chromatography. SEC separates molecules according to differences in size as the sample pass through a SEC medium packed in a column. Separation is mainly based on the size and shape of the sample.Usually, the smaller molecules are more delayed than the larger molecule. Unlike IEX or AC, molecules do not bind to the SEC medium. So, buffer composition does not directly affect resolution and SEC can be used directly after IEX, HIC or AC.
